CANDLES… because their love for music is what keeps their flame burning. That’s how the band best describe their kind of music. Frank, who comes from a family of musicians, was a former vocalist of a rap-core band called BMF. Richie was a former guitarist of a death metal band called Mind Heart Blood. Richie’s brother-in-law Danny, was once a drummer of a grunge band. Joining the band as the new guitarist and bassist are Wreuel and Mario.
In Mid 2003, Richie and Frank decided to form an alternative band called CANDLES.
The band started out by just jamming/covering songs they loved until they eventually found their sound and started writing songs that they were all passionate about…Spirituality, Realization and Love. It was Early 2004 when Danny was added as the band’s drummer and percussionist.
Candles got their first big break when they competed at the Nescafe Dewired 2 competition in September of 2004.
After which, Candles was featured on Jam Sessions aired live over Jam 88.3, as well as performed at the 2nd Anniversary Bash of Pluto Bar and BPI Summer Chill at The Podium.
The past 2005 and early quarter of 2006 had been very hectic for Candles, having guested twice at MASTER SHOWMAN on GMA-7 and racking up very successful stints and special engagements at TRANCE CAFÉ, YERO BAR, PIPERS, APOSENTO, JANERO BAR, QUISINE BAR, COUNTRY STEAK, SM MALL OF ASIA, ABSINTH, RATSKY (T.Morato), BAGABERDE (Pasig & Roxas Blvd.), METRO PHI BAR (Metrowalk) as well as having finished work on their debut album under Viva Records which was released on August 29, 2006.
